Sazerac Cocktail

- 2 ounces rye whiskey
or cognac
- 1/4 ounce simple syrup
- 3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
- 1 dash Angostura bitters
- Herbsaint or Pernod
to rinse the glass
Instructions
Instructions:
In an old fashioned glass, combine the rye whiskey (or cognac), simple syrup and both bitters. Fill glass with ice cubes and stir until chilled.
Rinse a chilled rocks glass with Herbsaint or Pernod then discard any excess liquid.
Strain the mixture from the old fashioned glass into the rocks glass filled with fresh ice cubes; garnish with lemon peel if desired.
