Today’s version of the Scotch & Soda cocktail includes a few more ingredients than just whisky and soda water; from lime juice to herbs and spices, there is something for everyone when it comes to mixing up this delicious beverage. Scotch & Soda Cocktail Recipe

Course: Drinks

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces of Scotch whisky
  • 3/4 ounce of soda water
  • 1 teaspoonful of sugar syrup or to taste
  • A few dashes of Angostura bitters optional

Instructions

  • In a rocks glass filled with ice cubes, combine the scotch and soda water.
  • Add the sugar syrup and stir until completely dissolved.
  • Optional: add a few dashes of Angostura bitters for an extra zing!
  • Serve with a lemon twist for garnish, if desired.

Glassware

The typical or usual glassware used for Scotch & Soda cocktails is typically a rocks glass, also known as an old-fashioned glass. The rocks glass is the most common type of cocktail glass and it has a wide base with straight sides that taper slightly towards the top.

This shape allows ice cubes to be added to the drink without splashing out when stirred, which makes it ideal for mixing Scotch & Soda cocktails. Alternatively, you could use a Collins Glass or Highball Glass if desired – these glasses are taller than rocks glasses and have similar shapes but can accommodate more liquid (if making larger servings).

Flavors

Scotch & Soda cocktails are a contemporary twist on classic drinks. Combining the smoky flavor of Scotch with the sweet, effervescent taste of soda, these drinks offer complex and flavorful notes in every sip.

The base spirit can range from whiskey to vodka or tequila depending on preference. A variety of flavors can be added to enhance the drink such as simple syrups, bitters, citrus juices, liqueurs and more! These ingredients help bring out different notes within each cocktail creating an exciting experience with every sip.

The flavor profile for Scotch & Soda cocktails is bold yet refreshing. The smokiness of the whisky pairs perfectly with the sweetness from simple syrup while a hint of bitterness adds depth and complexity to each sip.
