The Negroni is a classic cocktail that is believed to have originated in Florence, Italy in the early 20th century. The cocktail is typically made with equal parts of gin, sweet vermouth, and Campari, and is usually garnished with an orange peel.

The cocktail became popular among the aristocracy in Florence, and eventually spread throughout Italy and beyond. In the 1950s and 1960s, the Negroni gained popularity among American and British expatriates living in Italy, and it became a popular cocktail in bars and restaurants around the world.

Today, the Negroni is considered a classic cocktail and is a staple on many cocktail menus. The balance of sweet, bitter, and herbal flavors in the cocktail make it a complex and satisfying drink, and its simplicity and versatility have made it a favorite among bartenders and cocktail enthusiasts.

Classic Negroni

The classic Negroni is a timeless cocktail that never fails to impress. It’s smooth, sweet flavor will make you feel like a true mixologist! To create your own Classic Negroni, simply combine equal parts gin, Campari and sweet vermouth in an ice-filled rocks glass. Add a twist of orange peel for garnish and enjoy the perfect balance of bittersweetness.

Gin & Tonic Negroni

If you’re looking for something with a little bit more fizz, why not try this Gin & Tonic inspired version? Combine 1 part gin, 1 part Campari and 2 parts tonic water in an ice-filled Collins glass. For extra flavour add slices of fresh orange or lemon before stirring gently to combine. The result is light and refreshing – just what you need on those hot summer days!

Aperol Spritz Negroni

This modern take on the classic negroni combines Aperol with Prosecco for an effervescent twist on the original recipe. Simply fill 3/4th of your glass with Prosecco then pour over 1/4th Aperol. Top it off with soda water if desired before stirring gently to combine all ingredients together. Garnish with a few oranges slices for colour and added sweetness.

Glassware

A rocks glass, also known as an Old-Fashioned glass, is typically used for a Negroni. It can also be served in a martini or coupe glass. The rocks glass allows the drink to be served on the rocks (over ice) which balances out the bitterness of the Campari and sweetness of the sweet vermouth.

Flavors

A Negroni is an Italian cocktail made with gin, Campari and sweet vermouth. It’s a classic pre-dinner drink that has become increasingly popular in recent years. While the Negroni’s flavor profile may seem intimidating at first, it’s actually quite approachable and easy to enjoy.

At its core, the Negroni features three ingredients that each bring their own unique flavors to the mix – gin provides a herbal aroma with juniper berry notes; Campari adds a bittersweet orange taste while sweet vermouth gives off fruity aromas of raisins, plums and vanilla. The combination of these ingredients results in an intense yet balanced flavor profile with earthy bitterness that transitions into pleasant sweetness on the finish.

The beauty of this cocktail is how easily it adapts to different palates by simply adjusting one or more of its components. For those who find it too bitter, adding additional sweet vermouth can help soften some of its harsher edges while still keeping its signature complexity intact.

Conversely for those looking for something more bold, using dry vermouth instead can provide a richer body without diminishing any other component’s contribution to the overall flavor profile. Ultimately all variations result in an enjoyable Italian libation perfect for any occasion!
