Matador: deliciously different
This popular drink has its origins in Mexico but has gained popularity worldwide with its refreshing taste. Invented in the 1960s by renowned bartender Eddie Pérez, the Matador was first served at his bar in Mexico City.
Since then, it has become one of the most famous cocktails around. With its smooth blend of sweet and sour flavors, it appeals to all palates – from experienced mixologists to casual drinkers. Although traditionally made with tequila as its main ingredient, many people today opt for alternative spirits such as mezcal or vodka.
There are also various recipes available online that include different ingredients such as pineapple juice or agave nectar for added sweetness. Whatever your preference may be, you can’t go wrong with this classic cocktail.

Glassware
Typical or usual glassware used for making Matador cocktails would include long-stemmed glasses such as highball, martini, and margarita glasses. These are ideal for serving individual drinks such as a single Matador cocktail.
Rocks glasses can also be used to hold larger servings of the drink for sharing with friends. Flute glasses are often used to serve sparkling versions of the Matador like champagne cocktails or slushies. For traditional mixed drinks served on the rocks, consider using an old-fashioned glass or a tumbler glass so that there is room to add ice cubes and mixers without spilling over the sides of the cup.
Flavors
Matador is a modern, refreshing cocktail made with tequila and lime juice. Its flavor profile consists primarily of sweet citrusy notes that are enhanced by the presence of floral and herbal flavors from the tequila. The zesty acidity of fresh lime juice provides an exciting counterbalance to this blend of tastes, making Matador a light yet flavorful drink.
A variety of other ingredients can be added to accentuate specific aspects of the flavor profile. Orange liqueur adds a bit more sweetness while agave syrup helps bring out the herbal elements in the beverage’s taste. A dash or two of Angostura bitters will add some complexity while still allowing you to enjoy classic flavors like those found in margaritas. With its unique mixability and customizable taste, Matador makes for an endlessly enjoyable experience.
