Kamikaze: a Classic Cocktail

The original recipe for the Kamikaze cocktail was a simple mixture of equal parts vodka, triple sec, and lime juice. It was often served as a shot, with the ingredients shaken with ice and strained into a small glass. Over time, the recipe has been adapted and modified, and the Kamikaze is now often served as a larger cocktail, sometimes with additional ingredients like cranberry juice or blue curaçao.

Originating in the 1940’s

The Kamikaze cocktail is a popular drink that was first created in the late 1940s or early 1950s. Its origins are unclear, but it is believed to have been invented by American servicemen stationed in Japan after World War II. The cocktail is named after the Japanese word for “divine wind,” which was the name of a typhoon that saved Japan from invasion by Mongol forces in the 13th century.

Classic and Easy to Make

The proportions of these ingredients can be adjusted to taste, with some versions of the cocktail being more or less sweet, or more or less sour. Overall, the Kamikaze is a simple and refreshing cocktail that is easy to make and enjoy. • -1 part 1 oz or 30 ml freshly squeezed lime juice

Instructions

  • Instructions:
  • Fill a shaker with ice cubes.
  • Add all ingredients to the shaker and shake well.
  • Strain into a chilled cocktail glass, such as a martini glass, and enjoy!

Notes

You can also add Blue Curacao instead of triple sec to make it blue.

Glassware

The typical or usual glassware for a kamikaze is usually a shot glass, as it’s served in one quick gulp. However, variations of the drink can be found in other types of glasses such as martini and highball glasses.

Flavors

Kamikaze shots are a popular type of alcoholic beverage, perfect for getting the party started! They combine vodka, triple sec, and lime juice in equal parts.

The drink’s flavor profile is dominated by the tartness of fresh lime juice. The zesty citrus flavor pairs perfectly with the smooth sweetness of triple sec and vodka to create a refreshingly tangy concoction.

Vodka adds just enough bitterness to balance out the other flavors while also providing an extra kick to get you going. It’s easy to see why kamikaze shots have become so popular – they’re both delicious and fun!
