Fernandito Cocktail

The Fernandito is a classic rum-based cocktail that combines the zesty taste of lime with the sweet, syrupy flavor of simple syrup. It’s an easy-to-make drink, but it’s also one that packs plenty of punch. The history of this delicious cocktail can be traced back to Cuba in the early 1900s when bartenders were looking for ways to make their drinks more exciting and flavorful.

This Cuban twist on a traditional Daiquiri was created by Don Fernando Vázquez at La Floridita Bar in Havana – hence its name: Fernandito! According to legend, famous American author Ernest Hemingway was quite fond of this drink and enjoyed it regularly during his visits to Cuba. As word spread about its unique flavor combination, so did its popularity.

Today, the Fernandito is still served up throughout Latin America as well as other parts of the world. While some recipes differ slightly from one another depending on personal preference or regional ingredients available at the time (especially when it comes to types of rums used), most recipes call for equal parts white rum and lime juice mixed with a tablespoon or two of simple syrup. Add ice and shake until chilled – then serve over crushed ice in a rocks glass with an optional mint sprig garnish for added flair!

Glassware

Typical glassware used for contemporary cocktails includes highball glasses, martini glasses, rocks glasses, tiki mugs and coupes. Highball glasses are tall cylinders that are perfect for light drinks like gin and tonics or vodka sodas. Martini glasses are the classic V-shaped cocktail glass commonly used to serve traditional martinis. Rocks glasses (also known as old fashioned or whisky tumblers) feature short wide bowls with a thick base – perfect for serving whiskey on the rocks or neat. Tiki mugs come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they all have one thing in common: they’re designed to hold tropical rum-based cocktails like Mai Tais and Zombies. Coupes are stemmed champagne flutes often used when shaking up modern variations of classic favorites such as Gin Fizzes and French 75s.

Flavors

The Fernandito Cocktail is a delicious concoction made with white rum, lime juice and simple syrup. This cocktail has a light and refreshing flavor that makes it perfect for any summertime gathering. The white rum adds a smooth sweetness to the drink while the lime juice adds an invigorating tartness that helps balance out the sweetness of the rum. Finally, the simple syrup provides just enough sweetness to round everything out and make this cocktail irresistibly delicious.

When making this cocktail, it is important to find ingredients with great taste and quality. White rum should be chosen carefully as its flavor will really shine through in this drink. To get optimal results, try using your favorite brand of spiced or aged white rum — these will provide more complexity and depth in flavor than un-aged varieties. For best results when adding citrus flavors, fresh limes are always preferred over store-bought juices or mixes — their zesty brightness will bring vibrancy to your drink! Finally, use high quality simple syrup for subtle yet satisfying sweetness.

3 tips for Making Your Fernandito

  • Make sure to use fresh lime juice for the best flavor, as bottled juice will not provide the same tartness and complexity.
  • If substituting vodka or gin for rum, experiment with different brands to find one that suits your taste preferences.
  • For a sweeter drink, add more simple syrup; for a tangier drink, add more lime juice according to your preferenc.
