What is Crème De Cassis?
Crème de cassis is a French liqueur made from blackcurrants. It has an intense, tart flavor and aroma that comes from macerating the blackcurrant berries in alcohol. This popular sweet drink has been around since the 19th century and remains a favorite among many. Its taste can range between dry to sweet, depending on how it’s prepared.
It’s usually served as an apéritif or digestif but can also be used in cocktails or desserts. You’ll most often find it mixed with sparkling wine like champagne or white wine, but it can also be enjoyed straight up if you’d prefer something less alcoholic.
How Is Crème De Cassis Made?
The process for making crème de cassis begins with macerating ripe blackcurrants in alcohol for several days before straining them out. The mixture is then added to sugar syrup and left to steep for another few days until all of the flavors have blended together nicely. After this step, some additional alcohol may be added before bottling.
The final product should have an intense color and deep red hue that gives off a distinct aroma of blackcurrant when opened – perfect for enjoying neat or sprucing up any cocktail recipe!
How To Enjoy Crème De Cassis Straight
If you want to enjoy crème de cassis without mixing it into a cocktail or dessert first, there are several ways to go about doing so! First off, pour 1-3 ounces (depending on your preference) into a glass filled with ice cubes – this will help keep the drink cold while still allowing its full flavor profile come through clearly.
“Straight” here means without adding anything else—you could also add soda water if you’d like more dilution than just the ice cubes provide though! Once poured over ice cubes, sip slowly so as not to overwhelm yourself with its sweetness – remember: balance is key when drinking spirits neat!. If desired top up with tonic water/soda water/lemonade etc., which helps balance out some of its sweetness too. There’s no wrong way here either–experimenting is half the fun!
